In future, the roofs of the EMPL production plants will be resplendent in “blue”. EMPL is again setting standards in the field of sustainable company policy. After the recent conversion of the Kaltenbach main production plant to environmentally friendly natural gas, EMPL is investing heavily in solar energy. Photovoltaic systems requiring an investment of about 1.3 million euros will in future supply the Austrian and German plants with “clean” electricity.
PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEMS
Since 1958, photovoltaic systems have been used to supply most satellites with electricity. This energy production technology has been improved over time to make large-scale systems increasingly economic and cost-efficient.
ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT AND EMPL
Since its establishment, the company has placed great emphasis on sustainability and the cautious use of natural resources. It has often set standards, for example by building one of the most modern paintshop lines or the recent conversion to natural gas. EMPL is aware of its environmental responsibility. This year the company was obtained its ISO 14001 certification.
A new milestone was set in 2010. The decision to build large-scale photovoltaic systems in both EMPL plants represents a further step towards environmental management. The modules in Kaltenbach will be installed during the coming year. The system at the German plant will also be completed during this year. The electricity generated will be used for site consumption or fed into the national grid.
