In recent years, Empl has established itself as a preferred partner and supplier in the international fire-fighting sector. Several vehicles for the Audi plant fire brigade and Garching University of Technology are currently in production at Empl.
At the end of 2012, Empl was pleased to receive major contracts from BASF, a well-known industrial producer, and from SECURITAS, a security services provider. The family-owned company in Zillertal has again managed to take advantage of its strengths in the industrial sector.
EMPL EQUIPS THE ENTIRE FLEET OF THE AUDI PLANT FIRE BRIGADE
A new Audi plant is currently being built on a 40-hectare site at Münchsmünster Industrial Park. It will start production in the middle of 2013. Empl is providing the complete fleet for the plant fire brigade at the new site. The relationship between Audi and Empl dates back to 2008, when Empl delivered two HLF 20/16 to Ingolstadt. This very constructive collaboration led to a follow-up order for Empl. In total, two HLF 10/6, one advance fire-fighting vehicle, one large ventilation vehicle and two trainers (dangerous goods as well as special fire-fighting agents) were delivered.
AUXILIARY SERVICE GROUP FIRE-FIGHTING VEHICLE HLF 10/6
Two HLF 10/6 are mounted on a MAN TGM 13.290 4x2 BL chassis. The crew compartment is designed for a crew of 1+4 and has 3 newly developed Empl Eagle respirator holders.
The superstructure is made from aluminium sandwich panels on a galvanised basic steel frame that is supported at four points, independently of the cabin and therefore torsion-free. There are three further equipment compartments and two deep equipment compartments with underfloor flaps on the right and left sides. Holders are provided for all fire-fighting equipment.
The vehicles have a 1400-litre water tank and a 120-litre foam tank. The heart of the vehicle is the Empl NP 3000 FPN 10/2000 fire-fighting pump, which is located at the rear of the vehicles. It is completely oil-free and does not require maintenance. The vehicles are equipped with a CAFS compressed-air foam system. All lighting is provided in LED technology.
The roof can be accessed by a rear ladder that can be folded down and supported at an incline. The pneumatic light mast can be electrically turned and swivelled with a remote control unit and has 4 LED spotlights of 2000 lumens each.
ADVANCE FIRE-FIGHTING VEHICLE (VLF)
The VLF is built on a VW T5 chassis. An equipment compartment with a solid, powder-coated Empl aluminium roller shutter is located on each side, right and left. The equipment compartments are equipped with LED light bands that are activated by contact-free switches. A high-pressure fire-fighting system and PA devices are stored in pull-out drawers. A permanently installed generator is provided.
LARGE VENTILATION VEHICLE
The large ventilation vehicle is installed on a VW Crafter platform truck and made of aluminium sandwich panels. Directly behind the driver’s cabin are 2 equipment compartments that are closed off by roller shutters. A large mobile fan in lightweight design is located at the rear of the vehicle.
HAZARDOUS GOODS TRAILER
The two-axle trainers (aluminium profile construction) have one equipment compartment each on the right and the left side. The compartments have holders for all accessories such as protective suits, oil binders, leak-sealing lances, sealing cushions, a channel-blocking device, a collection funnel, an emergency tray, compressed air bottles, etc. Height-adjustable aluminium dividers facilitate variable space utilisation.
SPECIAL FIRE-FIGHTING AGENT TRAILER
The trailer for special fire-fighting agents contains fire-fighting systems, 500 kg powder and 120 kg CO2, that are mounted outside the equipment box. The box contains rapid-intervention equipment, heat protection suits and cast-iron chips.
AUXILIARY SERVICE GROUP FIRE-FIGHTING VEHICLE HLF 20 OR GARCHING TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY
The HLF 20 for Garching University of Technology, which is part of Munich University of Technology, is mounted on a Scania 4x4 chassis with a CrewCab and has 4 Empl Eagle respirator holders.
The superstructure is made of Empl Fire Fighter ALU-Tech and has two layers of polymer coating on the inside. There are three equipment compartments with roller shutters and two deep equipment compartments with underfloor flaps on each side that can also be used as stepping platforms. All lighting is provided in LED technology.
The vehicle has a 2000-litre fire-fighting-water tank, as well as two foam tanks with 100 and 200 litres of fire-fighting foam and an Empl NP 3000 FPN 10/3000 fire-fighting pump installed at the rear. A CAFS compressed-air foam system has been installed as well. A hygiene board pull-out drawer has been installed on the side of the vehicle.
A roof box and a combined branch deflector made of stainless steel are located on the roof. The roof can be accessed from the rear of the vehicle by using an aluminium ladder with a crossing platform and stepping protection. The light mast has 6 LED spotlights with 2000 lumen each. A permanently installed 30 kVA generator with hydraulic drive completes the vehicle.
