EMPL and the Austrian Armed Forces (ÖBH) enjoy a long-standing and close partnership. A wide variety of body types are currently in production in Kaltenbach. Among other things, the large order for over 800 swap bodies is currently being processed at full speed, ensuring basic production capacity until 2028. Furthermore, EMPL is now pleased to have received another follow-up order from the ÖBH worth approximately €30 million – particularly in its role as a manufacturer of civilian special vehicles for the construction industry.
The production facilities in Kaltenbach are currently producing 15 three-way rock tippers with removable rear cranes, 17 three-way rock tippers with a mounting device for a removable rear crane, and 14 two-axle tandem three-way tipping trailers for the Austrian Armed Forces (ÖBH). The recently placed follow-up order includes an additional 62 tippers, 40 crane console units with cranes, and a further 75 tipping trailers. "For the region, this not only means economic stability, but also the safeguarding of valuable jobs," says CEO Joe Empl.
3-way rock tipper with removable rear crane
The 3-way rock tipper is based on a 3-axle Rheinmetall MAN 42M 6x6 chassis. A removable Palfinger PK 26002 EH-D loading crane with a crane console unit and access ladder is mounted at the rear of the vehicle. The extensive range of accessories includes an endless rotator, a 500-liter clamshell grab, a timber grab, a pallet fork, and a work basket. The tipper body consists of a robust welded sectional steel construction and is equipped with longitudinal and cross members as well as additional reinforcements to ensure maximum torsional rigidity. The 8 mm thick floor plate is made of high-quality, wear-resistant fine-grain steel, while the 5 mm thick bulkhead features integrated excavator protection with a crane rest and side lashing eyes. An additional storage box is mounted between the driver's cab and the excavator protection. The hydraulically foldable side walls are made of 4 mm thick hollow steel sections. Additionally, hinged aluminum extension walls are installed on both sides. The tailgate also folds down hydraulically and is equipped with an extension wall that can be inserted into the upper profile of the tailgate.
2-axle tandem tipping trailer
The 2-axle tandem tipping trailers have an interior length of 5,200 mm and a total weight of 18 tons, and a deadweight of 5.6 tons. A support leg with an integrated gearbox is mounted on the drawbar. The floor and fixed bulkhead are made of 4.5 mm thick sheet steel, while the side walls are made of 2 mm steel. For additional stability and durability, the side walls are reinforced on the inside and at the top with 4 mm thick sheet steel. They can be folded down using lifting springs and locked in a horizontal position. The 4.5 mm thick rear wall folds down hydraulically and is controlled by radio remote control. Aluminum extension walls designed as swinging walls are installed on the sides and rear. The scope of delivery also includes a camouflage cover, a tarpaulin, and a cover net. The tipping frame features integrated compartments for aluminum loading ramps for loading up to 8 tons of small equipment (excavator transport). Numerous lashing eyes, rings, and points are provided for load securing, which also allows for loading by rail.
In addition, a special axle load indicator was installed in both the rock tipper and the trailer, which provides the operator with information about possible overloading via a separate display in the driver's cab. The complete system provides the Austrian Armed Forces with a versatile body unit that enables flexible use for a wide variety of transport applications.
