Following the delivery of electric vehicles for food distribution and electric trucks with swap bodies, EMPL recently delivered Austria's first hydrogen-powered refrigerated body on a Hyundai XCient to JuVe Automotion GmbH. The vehicle will be used by MPREIS, which receives strategic support from JuVe.
The 3-axle Hyundai FL XCient 6x2-2LL with a liftable and hydraulically steered rear axle is a refrigerated vehicle with an interior length of 8.55 m including a tail lift and a range of up to 400 km. MPREIS has been producing green hydrogen at its own facility since 2022. This hydrogen will be used in the future for the local supplier's own trucks as well as by external partners for industrial applications.
Freezer Body
The lightweight plastic-built freezer body is based on a hot-dip galvanized steel subframe with a matching box substructure. The insulated floor is equipped with a longitudinal aluminum profile and integrated lashing rails for load securing. The body also features mounts for the installation of removable cargo partition grilles, complemented by matching stainless steel locking bars. Both the side walls and the bulkhead are equipped with impact protection strips and lashing rails to ensure optimal securing of the transported goods. The bulkhead has been reinforced to accommodate hydrogen tanks. The upper section features a dedicated recess for the electrically operated Carrier refrigeration system, which is entirely powered by the on-board hydrogen system.
A Bär tail lift with a load capacity of 2,000 kg is installed at the rear of the vehicle. It features a roll-off stop, a special noise-reducing coating on the platform, RamGuard collision protection, dual controls, and a central lubrication system for low-maintenance operation. Additional features include a side-mounted step at the rear for safe access to the tail lift platform, a stainless steel toolbox, a rearview camera, and powerful reversing lights. The entire body unit was wrapped on three sides in the customer's individual design. The truck used – a Hyundai XCient – is designed for both solo operation and use with a trailer.
