The Austrian Armed Forces are modernizing their aging vehicle fleet. Since EMPL has had a successful partnership with the Austrian Armed Forces for decades, the traditional Tyrolean company can look forward to a major order worth over € 106 million net.
In order to efficiently support the soldiers in their missions and ensure their safety, EMPL has developed many special solutions together with the Austrian Armed Forces in recent years, including the swap system developed specifically for the Austrian Armed Forces in 2005, which makes a significant contribution to increasing the efficiency of transport logistics.
Since the system has proven itself, the Federal Ministry of Defense recently ordered additional bodies from EMPL. In total, both orders include more than 800 swap bodies, over 850 trucks equipped to accommodate these bodies, and conversions of 18 existing bodies for troop maintenance. The work will be carried out between 2024 and 2027, which ensures that EMPL has a basic level of production capacity.
The ÖBH's order therefore makes a significant contribution to the long-term security of the location and the creation of new jobs at EMPL and its suppliers in the region and throughout Austria. With the start of the production phase, the Zillertal truck body manufacturer is planning to further expand its workforce, with initial recruitment measures already underway.
"With this order from the Austrian Federal Government, we see our decision to continue to focus on the domestic business location and to invest in the expansion of our main plant in Austria confirmed," says Joe Empl. The company has invested over 10 million euros in the expansion of the production halls in Kaltenbach over the last two years and is also planning to expand the Uderns, Zillertal site with over 1.8 million euros.
Since the new developments with the Austrian Armed Forces serve as a reference and source of ideas for many armies around the world on how vehicles and bodies can be used efficiently, EMPL is optimistic that this order will also enable it to further expand its success on international markets.
With such large orders, the Federal Ministry of Defense not only makes a significant contribution to securing jobs and strengthening the domestic economy, but also ensures that the supply of spare parts and service is secured within Austria even in times of crisis, without being exclusively dependent on global supply chains. In addition, the long-expressed wish of the Austrian economy to be directly considered in procurement in certain areas or, if this is not possible (such as with aircraft, helicopters, etc.), to at least be indirectly involved via the supply chains, is being met.
